POSITION: Substance Abuse Counselor
SALARY: DOE
HOURS: Full-time Time

DUTIES: This position is responsible for detox, substance abuse counseling and case management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A State Certification in substance abuse counseling and one year of professional experience counseling recovering addicts in a program that has been licensed by the California State Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs;
- Associates of Arts degree in Behavioral Science or related field
- Two years of experience counseling recovering addicts in a licensed substance abuse treatment program.
- Knowledge of substance dependency, substance abuse and personality dynamics of substance abusers.
- Basic computer skills
- Able to communicate clearly, effectively, and compassionately with others
- Strong writing skills and close attention to detail.
- Strong crisis management, conflict resolution and de-escalation skill
- Aptitude for working as part of a team
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Have organizational skills; good computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of chemical dependency, substance abuse, personality dynamics of the substance abuser, and trauma informed.
- Valid California Driver’s License and proof of personal auto insurance is required. Hire is contingent upon agency insurability.
- Not currently on probation or parole. Must be discharged for at least 3 years.
- Must be able to pass a criminal history background screening and receive clearance from the California Department of Corrections; as well as maintain a yearly CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, physical exam, and Tuberculosis test results.
- Must be available and flexible with scheduling
Responsibilities:
- Performs primary alcohol and drug counseling screening: assessment and intake; bio psychosocial assessments; client and family orientation; and development of treatment plans in collaboration with Case manager and Clinical Counselor
- Conduct crisis intervention; group, individual, and educational sessions; discharge and transitions planning
- Supports culturally sensitive, and trauma informed milieu
- Work with residents through case management to help achieve individual goals
- Monitors and records client self-administration of medication
- Other duties as assigned
