Position Summary

The TC Counselor is a senior-level clinical role within AADAP’s Therapeutic Community (TC) Residential Program. Reporting to the Unit Coordinator, this position provides leadership, clinical guidance, and direct services to residents while maintaining fidelity to AADAP’s treatment philosophy and community-based model.

The TC Counselor continuously assesses the therapeutic environment and makes independent clinical interventions that impact the overall residential community.

Key Responsibilities1. Individual Case Management & Clinical Services (30%)

Conduct comprehensive diagnostic assessments
Develop individualized treatment plans and personal recovery goals
Provide individual counseling, family support services, crisis intervention, and resident advocacy (including court representation as needed)
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with federal, state, county, and agency standards
Maintain and support the daily structure of the Therapeutic Community

2. Group Facilitation & Residential Programming (40%)

Facilitate encounter groups, topic groups, and small process groups
Lead life skills, relapse prevention, and conflict resolution seminars
Monitor and support daily treatment activities within the Residential Unit
Assist in developing and implementing alternative therapeutic exercises

3. Team Leadership & Program Support (30%)

Support intake and orientation of new residents
Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and treatment planning
Collaborate with counseling staff to develop and implement resident treatment plans
Assist with resident transportation needs and outreach activities (presentations, networking, referrals)
Support facility structure and resident accountability in coordination with leadership
Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or related field
Minimum five (5) years of experience providing substance use disorder treatment services
Four years of college education related to the field or equivalent relevant experience
Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) or registered with a state-approved certification body; must obtain certification within two (2) years of hire
Valid California Driver’s License and proof of personal auto liability insurance
Minimum three (3) years of recovery or drug-free lifestyle
Demonstrated computer proficiency
Ability to meet background clearance and health requirements
Proof of work authorization in the United States

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Four years of college education related to field or equivalent work experience related to position.
Masters Degree in Social Work, Counseling or Clinical Psychology
Five (5) years experience in providing drug and alcohol treatment services
CAS Certification or register with a State approved alcohol and drug counseling certification organization and obtain certification within two (2)-year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual and/or bicultural in Los Angeles County threshold languages strongly encouraged (Spanish, Armenian, Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Arabic, and others)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong leadership and clinical decision-making skills
Ability to work independently while maintaining alignment with program philosophy
Skilled in crisis intervention and conflict resolution
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Professional demeanor, punctuality, and strong interpersonal skills
Commitment to the Therapeutic Community model and team-based treatment approach

Physical Requirements

Moderate Duty:
Frequent standing and walking; bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Occasional lifting over 25 pounds and frequent lifting between 10–25 pounds. Regular use of stairs and movement throughout the residential facility.

Pay: $27.50 - $28.89 per hour
