Position Summary
The Night Caseworker provides overnight supervision and support within the Residential Treatment Unit. Under the direction of the Unit Coordinator, this role ensures program integrity, resident safety, and adherence to treatment protocols during evening and overnight hours. The Night Caseworker supports the clinical team by monitoring residents, assisting with case management needs, facilitating interventions, dispensing medications, and documenting services and activities.
The ideal candidate is dependable, observant, able to multitask, and committed to maintaining a structured and therapeutic residential environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Oversight & Resident Supervision (70%)
Orient new residents to Residential Unit policies and procedures
Supervise residents in kitchen, service crew, maintenance, and daily evening activities
Conduct interventions as needed during the night shift
Dispense, monitor, and document medications in accordance with program protocols
Conduct and document scheduled urinalysis testing
Coordinate and document resident referrals and treatment-related appointments
Review daily group documentation for completeness
Maintain facility safety, security, and compliance with health and safety codes
Ensure treatment team decisions are appropriately enforced
Document significant events in the Staff Communication Log
Transportation Coordination (10%)
Coordinate and monitor unit vehicle usage in compliance with agency policies
Provide and/or arrange transportation for treatment-related appointments
Team Collaboration & Communication (20%)
Participate in case conferences (bi-weekly or as required)
Provide observations and feedback regarding resident evening behavior and interactions
Assist in the development and monitoring of resident treatment goals
Support supervision of resident leadership roles (Crew Foreman, House Coordinator)
Perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of college education in a related field or two (2) years of equivalent work experience
AOD Counselor Certification or registration with a state-approved certifying organization within 30 days of hire
Demonstrated computer proficiency
Valid California Class C Driver’s License, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation
Ability to drive a 15-passenger van (or obtain eligibility within 90 days of hire)
Minimum three (3) years of recovery or drug-free lifestyle
Ability to meet background clearance and health requirements (physical exam and TB test upon hire)
Proof of work authorization in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual/bicultural in Los Angeles County threshold languages (Spanish, Armenian, Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Arabic, and others)
Certification in drug and alcohol counseling
Experience in residential treatment, group facilitation, or building maintenance
Experience conducting outreach or community presentations
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong observational and crisis intervention skills
Ability to enforce program structure and maintain professional boundaries
Team-oriented with strong communication skills
Culturally competent and able to work effectively with diverse populations
Reliable, punctual, and professional in conduct and appearance
General Requirements and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s):
Permanent resident or U.S. Citizen; proof of work eligibility upon hiring.
Must have Valid Class C Driver’s license, California minimum Automobile Insurance and an appropriate motor vehicle.
Ability to drive 15 passenger vans or obtain a Valid Class C Driver’s license with ability to drive 15 passenger vans within 90 days of hire.
Complete physical examination and TB test upon hiring.
Must have three (3) years of recovery or drug free lifestyle as of the date of the application.
Ability to get along well with others, be punctual, pleasant, and tactful with professional appearance and conduct.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, clients and their families, community organizations, and the general public.
Ability to be culturally competent of age groups, gender identity, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic status, and diverse cultures.
Physical Requirements
Moderate Duty:
Frequent standing and walking; bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Occasional lifting over 25 pounds and frequent lifting between 10–25 pounds. Regular stair use and movement throughout the facility.
